OSR – PlayStation Move Games (+Top10)

The PlayStation Move released in the heat of the 7th generation of consoles (aka the motion controlled gen). When it released it was instantly dismissed by critics and most of the public as nothing but a wiimote rip-off. Fair enough, I wasn’t very interested either but, as this fad in gaming came to a close, stores everywhere started liquidating these peripherals and, for a few bucks, I decided to take the bite.

In the end, I had fun. These were definitely more precise than Nintendo’s controllers and, because Sony decided to re-utilize these for PSVR, I ended up seizing every penny that I invested in these for sure.

But we’re here to talk about the PS3 usage itself. I mostly gravitated towards on-rails shooters and, in that style, there were a ton of them. Many first-party offerings were given move patches for alternate controls and they played fun. Casual/Party types were rampant (although I avoided most). Of course, there were also a bunch of Wii ports as well.

Huge disclaimer: I haven’t played absolutely every move-compatible game on PS3 so you won’t find them here. Like I hinted above, this peripheral attracted a ton of shovelware-tier projects so, although they’re sold for pennies nowadays, I don’t feel like spending my time in trying them. That being said, you will find the most interesting titles you can play here and a bunch others that aren’t as much. Let’s start!

OSR – PS4 Racing games

In these “One-sentence Reviews” I summarize my impressions of games the briefest I can. It’s never one sentence literally but I try to never go beyond three. Despite that, today’s OSR might be the longest article on the blog, why? Because I’ll be covering all of the racing games I’ve played on PS4.

Indie or AAA, I love this genre with a passion so I’ve played a massive amount of them in this console. Some have already got full-blown reviews on the blog, I’ll make sure to link those. Still, these won’t be all of the racing games available on the system, be advised.

OSR – Visual Novels on Vita

It’s summertime and that’s the time for vacation. If you’re a boring old guy you may pack the latest bestseller with you and then read it by the poolside but, if you’re the coolest cat like me, you might want to go out with your Vita instead and enjoy some of its many great Visual Novels available for it.

On today’s One-sentence reviews, a ton of Visual Novels that you can “read portably”. These won’t be all of the VNs on Vita. Just the ones I have and have had the time to play as of today. Also, because the Visual Novel is such a particular and quirky genre, I’ve decided to change the usual structure of these super brief reviews for something more synthetic.

OSR – PS3’s Launch games

Last Wednesday (the 23rd) was the 15th anniversary of the PS3. It was for me at least as I live in Europe. I still remember very vividly that sweet moment in time. It was before the concept of GAAS existed, microtransactions were rampant and Ridge Racer wasn’t only a distant memory. You can even read about this very day in a gaming memories article Roy and I wrote a while back.

The thing is that, even though I obviously couldn’t afford every game that launched with the console back then (that 600€ price tag was high enough already), with time I ended up playing the vast majority of them.

On today’s one-sentence reviews, my super brief thoughts on all these now “retro” games. Disclaimer: These still won’t be absolutely all of the games that were available at release, I don’t have that much money to burn. Let’s begin!

OSR – Ratalaika Games on Vita

I’m still playing my Vita quite regularly even today. However, you wouldn’t know that by my output on the blog since it’s been more than a year since I posted a review on any Vita game. It just happens that the Vita games I play these days are either irrelevant (as they’re ancient games from its early years) or really tiny indies that I don’t think warrant a full-blown review to themselves. Case in point, all of the Ratalaika-published titles I’ve been playing and, until now, never even mentioned.

Today, in this “One-Sentence Review”, a quick commentary on each of them. They’re not necessarily just one sentence but they’ll be briefer than brief.

Disclaimer: These won’t be all the games that Ratalaika brought to the Vita. In fact, these aren’t even all the games I bought from them because it just happens that my Vita backlog is absolutely out of control and I haven’t tried some out yet. Let’s just dive in!

OSR – PS5 Year One

Today marks the one year anniversary of PS5’s worldwide release. If you think that happened a week ago it’s because, unlike me, you don’t live in Europe.

I was lucky enough to get one that fateful day and, ever since, I’ve played for as many hours and as many games as my time and my wallet could afford. As some kind of recap, in this article I’ll list a one-sentence review of each of those PS5 games.

Obviously, this will be far from being every PS5 game that has been released so far. This will be a brief first-hand impression of quite a few games though so I think it still could be useful as some sort of buyer’s guide for newcomers to the platform. On that front, to these one-sentence reviews I decided to add an extra “annex” with what I think every new PS5 owner would look for the most in their first game purchases to fully utilize their new hardware, graphics and Dualsense features. Let’s begin!

OSR – Ubisoft on PSP

If you ask me about which company I think best supported Sony’s first handheld, the PSP, I’d answer Square Enix. They released some of the greatest games you can play on the system and for that, I think they are the best. However, what if instead of asking who supported it the best, we ask who supported it the most? Then the answer is probably Ubisoft.

Ubisoft flooded the PSP scene with countless titles. Many of their famous IPs got adapted to the portable console and they also published quite a few Japanese games that, for whatever reason, nobody else was willing to publish here in Europe.

Below there will be a series of One-sentence (give or take) reviews of all the Ubisoft PSP titles I’ve played. Let’s see if quantity over quality paid off in here.

OSR – PS4 Exclusives

The release of the PS5 worldwide is really making us look back at the games that we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy all through this generation. The reason why we buy consoles in the first place is to play games on it and PS4 has literally dozens of reasons in the shape of exclusive titles. I’ve reviewed many of them throughout the years but, if you want an abriged opinion of all of them, this article is exactly for that. One sentence (give or take) reviews.

Even if the upcoming list appears massive, these won’t really all of PS4’s exclusives. Why? Because even if I’ve played the vast majority of exclusives this console offers, there are still a few that haven’t fallen on my hands (yet). That and …I may have forgot some.
Without further ado, let’s start.

OSR – Catching up with PSVR part 2

If there’s one thing that separates Sony’s VR platform than many of its failed peripherals is the amount of software (games) supporting it. It is true that the vast majority of games released for PSVR are “smaller-scaled” compared to a typical AAA release but, there’s just so many of them.
For that reason and, because some of them come from somewhat unproven indie studios, I think that an article like this can be pretty useful to the average consumer. I’ve played a ton of PSVR games since I wrote this other article and this is what I think of them:

OSR – Catching up with PSVR

When it comes to “gimmicky” stuff in video games, I’m always pretty reticent but, at the same time, I’m always willing to try. Just like last gen with the move, I ended up buying every peripheral for the system but only after the price dropped massively. This time around, after holding back on the platform for two years, black Friday came and with it many deals that made me finally take the plunge and get the damned headset.
From that point on I’ve been playing with this peripheral a lot. I’ve got a bunch of games for it and many others that I already had played on a standard screen like Wipeout. This is a collection of my impressions on each of them.
