Gaming Memories – Musou’s Awful First Impression

If you’ve followed this blog for a while now, you’ll know that I’m kind of a militant advocate for the Musou genre. I love playing them and sharing my love for this type of game that seemingly many gamers don’t really understand.

However, my appreciation for this genre wasn’t there from the start. You might be surprised to read this but, my first ever experience with a Musou game wasn’t a good one. In fact, I pretty much hated it. Today’s “gaming memories” is exactly about that.

Top 10 Horror games on PS2

I’ve been… dying to write this article but, like Michael Myers, I had to wait for the appropriate day to do it. The PS2 generation was the perfect horror era for me. It coincided with my rebellious teenage years so I felt specially drawn to this genre. It also happened that the owner of the video rental store I frequented was a massive horror fan and had an immense selection of horror games to rent. Because of that, this is one of the very few instances where I really feel like I might have actually played all of the games that could be eligible for this top 10.

That being said, this is still a very subjective topic. Please don’t get mad if what I consider the best horror games don’t match your tastes. Also and, like always, only one game per franchise is allowed (that’s gonna hurt). Let’s start!

Top 10 PS2 JRPGs

Well, that’s a bunch of acronyms in a title, isn’t it?

Anyway… In the past I’ve posted RPG top tens for both the PSP and the PS3. I figured out that sooner or later I’ll have to write one for every PlayStation console and, among those, the one platform that deserves that article the most has to be the PS2.

A majority of gamers consider this era to be the pinnacle of the Japanese Role-Playing Game and, while I wouldn’t dare to be so categorical about it, a huge amount of great titles were released for this console indeed. Here I’ll present my favorite 10.

Disclaimer time: Like with all my top 10s, only one game per franchise will appear. Also, and more particular to this “retro topic”, some of these games I haven’t played in a long time so disclaimer for my “nostalgia glasses” perspective.

Top 10 Racing games on PS2

Maybe because the next-gen seems so close, I’ve been feeling pretty nostalgic lately. I’ve been remembering when I was a kid and played on a PlayStation for the first time, the Christmas when I got gifted my PS2… It made me realize that even being this a PlayStation-centric blog, we haven’t touched much on these older consoles and I’m willing to change that.
What better console to start this than with the most successful PlayStation ever and what better genre to start than with my personal favorite. Today I’ll be sharing what I think are the 10 best racing games of the whole PS2 era.
Like always, only one game per franchise, and all of the picks and their position are based solely on my own personal opinion. Let’s rev up and start this!

Gaming Memories – PS2’s true graphical leap

If you haven’t noticed already, this section is about me laughing at how dumb I used to be as a kid. Whether kids these days are even dumber or not is irrelevant. It is true though that they’ll never be able to experience the awe of a generation leap like gamers of my age used to.
Back in the day, when going from a console to its successor, you could tell that there was a generation apart in terms of graphical quality between the two. Now we’re experimenting the law of diminishing returns. Yeah, the image looks slightly more crisp and the lighting slightly more realistic but the change isn’t what you’d call “groundbreaking” at what you can appreciate at a glance.
Today’s topic is related to that. This article is about one exact detail that, when moving into PS2, wowed me (and how stupid it is in retrospective).
