In celebration of this month’s LGBT history, even though June isn’t the “official” LGBT month, June is still a historic month for the community and we couldn’t let it go without posting our personal top 10 LGBT characters in video games, and here they are:
#10: Andrew (The Technomancer)
Andrew is one of your companions in the game, he’s missing an arm and it’s been replaced with a mechanical one. He is very charismatic and charming and a powerful companion. During the game you’ll be able to build a solid friendship with him and (based on player’s choice) possibly a romantic relationship.
#9: Erica Anderson (Catherine)
Erica is a caring, friendly, vivacious and a bit of a gossiper bartender at the Stray Sheep. She is a trans-woman and is very good at what she does. She is friends with the main character of the game and usually joins him in his conversations and occasionally flirts with him.
#8: Veronica Santangelo (Fallout: New Vegas)
Veronica is a Brotherhood Of Steel member who fled her BOS bunker in search for adventure. She is openly homosexual and despite your efforts with a male character she won’t flirt with you.
#7: Tracer (Overwatch)
Lena Oxton better known as Tracer is one of the heroes from Overwatch and one of my personal favorites. Considered to be the mascot of the game, she is one of the most unique and powerful characters. She is the first Overwatch character to be confirmed as LGBT.
#6: Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin (Metal Gear Solid 3 and V)
Known as Thunderbolt and Man On Fire; a man of formidable size and strength. Volgin is bisexual, having been in relationships with both genders, most notably EVA and Major Raikov. Despite his cruel ways and negative qualities, he deeply cared for his love interests, specially Raikov.
#5: Dorian Pavus (Dragon Age: Inquisition)
At first Dorian gave me the impression he was this cocky, arrogant and egotistical human being…. and I wasn’t wrong. But hey, what’s wrong with that when you have model good-looks and are fashion forward as Dorian is! But there’s more to him than just that and he proves himself of being a charming, caring, and loyal friend or passionate lover.
#4: Ellie (The Last Of Us and Part II)
I think the biggest surprise of all from Left Behind is that we all found out Ellie and Riley had romantic feelings for each other. I will never forget that moment because it was magical. Can’t wait to see her in Part II and hopefully a future love interest in the upcoming game.
#3: Athena (Borderlands Series)
A deadly assassin and badass expert combatant, Athena is one of my favorite character from Borderlands. She is a lesbian and forms a relationship with a NPC character named Janey, the two flirt numerous times and make a bond to the point of living together and eventually getting married.
#2: Chloe Price (Life Is Strange and it’s prequel)
It’s been hinted numerous times in the game that Chloe may be bisexual and has feelings for Max. Chloe and depending on player’s choice they will develop this relationship further. It’s also been hinted that Chloe had romantic feelings towards Rachel but she didn’t know Rachel was secretly seeing a man named Frank. If this is true or not, we’ll only get to see more of this relationship in the upcoming game.
#1: Kanji Tatsumi (Persona Series)
A notorious character from the Persona franchise, loved his character from the start. Kanji was sexually confused and he showed it in a very peculiar way, and that being said; it was a bit over the top but I think it was brilliant. Seeing him go through the process of coming out made me like him even more, not every coming out story is all butterflies and rainbows, and everybody reacts differently. Unfortunately it was a struggle for him and he felt confused and scared. Him being gay or bisexual is an open discussion but either way I proudly present him at number one in this list.
- Poison (Final Fight & Street Fighter)
- Javier (The Walking Dead season 3)
- Kian Alvane (The Longest Journey)
- Ivan Raidenovitch Raikov (Metal Gear Solid 3)
- Kurosu Jun (Persona 2)
